The Old Stone Fort

The Old Stone Fort located in Schoharie, New York is rich in history. In 1772 it was originally built to serve as a church. During the American Revolution it was fortified and used as a stronghold for local residents and militia to defend themselves from the Loyalists. After the Revolution was over, The Old Stone Fort resumed its use as a church. Later, it was sold to the state of New York and used as an armory. Finally, in 1889 it was turned into a museum, an identity it still holds to this day.
We were honored to be able to investigate this unique property with such a diverse history. We welcomed first time guest, Lisa, with us and she enjoyed learning our methods and trying out our tools of the trade. The dowsing rods seemed to really respond to her.
We were all captivated by the attached burial grounds and the beautiful old trees surrounding the fort. The museum has exhibits ranging from fossilized remains and tools from the neolithic era to Victorian hair wreathes and historical taxidermy. This truly eclectic collection beautifully tells the history of Schoharie County! We're excited to see what evidence we find.
