The Old 76 House Tavern

The Old 76 House Tavern is one of the oldest continually operating taverns in America. We jumped at the chance to investigate in this historic area. Tappan, New York is just across the Hudson River from the legendary town of Sleepy Hollow.
This historic building is also known as Andre's Prison but it was never an official jail. During the Revolutionary war, the infamous spy who was in cahoots with Benedict Arnold, Major John Andre, was imprisoned at The Tavern under the watchful eye of General George Washington. Major Andre was tried and hanged as a spy at the nearby gallows on what is now known as Treason Hill.
We had dinner at The Tavern before investigating and the food was amazing! The staff shared their experiences with us and our waiter even stayed past his shift to investigate with us for part of the night.
If you're ever in the Hudson Valley, this is a great destination and we highly recommend it.
